Outreach Templates

It can be difficult to know how to most effectively reach out to people and companies that you don't know. Because of that, we have created three different templates that you can use for your initial outreaches. (If you need a refresher, revisit Making Your Own Weather Lessons 8.) The most successful outreaches are as follows:

  • Most successful: a bespoke outreach to a specific person
    • Susan - Your comments in the Wall Street Journal (TED Talk, Podcast, etc.) In this model, their ego compels them to open the email.
    • Susan - Analyst question on your earnings call. Here, if you have something to say related to their stock, you’re relevant.
    • Susan - Scaling a SaaS business in a COVID world. This kind of subject line speaks to what’s keeping her up at night
  • Second most successful: outreach to a specific person about your target company
    • Susan - [Company]'s recent [story/event/accomplishment]
    • Susan - [Company]'s culture or views on diversity
  • Third most successful: outreach to a specific person about your target industry
    • Susan - From my experience, I know companies in the industry are often challenged by...

Quick Tip: The most successful emails tend to be those where people can see and hear your personality through your messaging. So take time to update the template in your voice or just use it as inspiration for your own email.

Hi [First Name],

I hope you are doing well.  I saw how you [story/event/accomplishment/etc].   I really like how you [fill in the blank] and it prompted me to reach out.  I think there are elements in my background that would make for a good conversation, for example:

Can we find [enter time frame] minutes over the next two weeks to get acquainted and explore if my skills are a good match for [Company Name]? From there we will both likely know if there is a basis for continuing the conversation or not. If we haven’t had a chance to connect and set a time by [insert relative date], I’ll follow back up with you.

Thanks so much and hope to speak with you soon.

Now that you have your target companies and contacts uploaded to Pipedrive, you can begin your initial outreaches.

Set a goal for yourself to do a specific number of outreaches per day or week. You may feel like 5/day is overwhelming, but 5/week may work with your workload. It is best to set a goal and just get started.  Select 1 company and begin your research. See if you can find information on the contact - if not, the company - if not, the industry, and create an email specific to that outreach.

If you would like help or feedback on outreaches, feel free to message us in your customer service Slack channel or email us at support@career.club.

Note *make sure the stuff is toggled on*

Once you have sent your email, don't forget to set a reminder to follow up on Friday.
